Orono Figure Skating Club - Parent Code of Conduct

The Parents Code of Conduct is for all parents with skaters registered in any Orono Figure Skating Club Program. The following is a Code of Conduct for parents to abide by at all skating sessions, competitions and club organized events.  Parents who follow this simple code of conduct can help reinforce what sport is all about……BEING FUN FOR EVERYONE.
As a parent or guardian of a skater who has taken membership or registration with the Orono Figure Skating Club, I THEREFORE AGREE:

  1. Young skaters and other children must not be left unattended while at the arena. Parents of CanSkate/CanPower/StarSkate 1 must have a responsible person present at the arena at all times.
  2. Parents and spectators are not to remain in the players’ bench area or inside the ice pad area. Parents may watch their children from the stands or from the glass area within the lobby of the arena, so as not to interfere with lessons or block access to the ice surface.
  3. Parents are to refrain from interrupting lessons, or coaching their children from the boards.
  4. Parents of skaters are not permitted on the ice to assist their child. If any parent wishes to volunteer as a Program Assistant they must take a Skate Canada sanctioned training session with a club coach.
  5. Parents are responsible for the behavior of their children during all sessions.
  6. Encourage your child to abide by the rules of the Orono Figure Skating Club.
  7. Remember that children learn best by example. Applaud good efforts by other skaters as well as your own.
  8. Do not publicly question or criticize officials, coaches or club members.  If you have issues that need to be addressed please see a board member.
  9. Recognize the value and importance of the volunteer. They give of their time and resources to provide a positive skating experience for your child. Please remember to honour your volunteer commitment.
 Be informed. Check the club bulletin board regularly and inquire at the club office if you have any questions or concerns.
